History
Founded 1984, as West Africa News Agencies Development -- Développement des agences de presse d'Afrique de l'Ouest, as a project sponsored by B-XB3383 - UNESCO and the Federal Republic of Germany. In the past, also referred to as West African News Agency Development Project -- Projet de développement des agences de presse de l'Afrique de l'Ouest or in French as Développement des agences de presse d'Afrique de l'Ouest et centrale. Transformed into an autonomous, self-financing regional institution and present name adopted, Jun 1995, following approval of statutes Oct 1993, Cotonou (Benin). As of 2016, assumed ceased to exist.
Aims
Strengthen the capacity of the mass media in West Africa to promote social and economic development through accurate and informed reporting; promote the use of communication for sustainable development.
