History
1980, Brussels (Belgium), as an action programme in the field of education, on the basis of Resolution dated 9 Feb 1976 of the E-XE7976 - European Council and the Ministers of Education, meeting within E-XE3068 - Council of the European Union. Services reinforced, 1990, on adoption of a resolution of the Council and the Ministers. The T-XT9113 - Treaty on European Union (Maastricht Treaty), in chapter 3 article 126, made provision for developing exchange of information and experience on issues common to education systems of member states, leading to new prospects for EURYDICE which are taken into account in the U-XF3116 - SOCRATES Programme, adopted 14 Mar 1995. Original title referred to the 'European Community'; subsequently referred to as: Education Information Network in the European Union -- Réseau d'information sur l'éducation dans l'Union européenne -- Red de Información sobre la Educación en la Unión Europea -- Bildungsinformationsnetz in der Europäischen Union -- Rede de Informação sobre Educação na União Européia -- Rete di Informazione Educativa nell'Unione Europea -- Informatienet voor Onderwijs in de Europese Unie -- Informationsnettet om Uddannelse i det Europaeiske Union -- Diktio Ekpedevtikon Pliroformion stin Evropaiki Enosi. Title change, 1996, to European Education Information Network -- Réseau européen d'information sur l'éducation -- Europäisches Bildungsinformationsnetz -- Europese Informatienetwerk voor Onderwijs. Since 2014, Eurydice has been included in Erasmus+, the EU programme for education, training, youth and sport.

Support cooperation in the field of education at European level through information on education systems and policies; provide information to policy-makers and the wider world of education.
