The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

20 Nov 1964, Brussels (Belgium), a working party having been set up 27 Nov 1963, Brussels. Originally known as European Federation of Congress Towns. Registered in accordance with Belgian law. 1 Jan 2007, merged with European Cities Tourism (ECT) to form European Cities Marketing (ECM).

Aims

Bring together eligible European towns desiring to act as venues for congresses; facilitate mutual exchange of information and publication of specialized studies; collaborate with official institutions and international organizations concerned with organization of congresses; promote Europe as a whole and each European member town as a leading conference destination.

Activities

Provides up-to-date information on venues and services and assists meeting planners and organizers in identifying a destination in line with their requirements; organizes common booths at professional trade shows, presentations, European Conference Market (ECM); acts as spokesperson for the industry and represents the industry on ETAG; undertakes specialized training, including a Summer School. European Liaison Office in Brussels (Belgium) works with the European Union in providing advice, guidance and a two-way information channel on the role of congresses and meetings within EU.
