History

Founded by the Bishop of Strasbourg, at the request of the laity, following foundation, 6 Nov 1949, of Catholic Secretariat for European Problems – Secrétariat catholique pour les problèmes européens (SCPE).

Aims

Promote reflection and engage in dialogue and advocacy on: political, social, ecological and economic problems dealt with by the European Union and the Council of Europe; ethical and spiritual problems arising from society's responsibility for its citizens, especially developing countries and the environment, with a special concern for relations between the EU and the Global South cultural and spiritual problems which concern human values such as peace, justice, sustainability and human dignity. Serve as a centre for European initiatives which seeks to establish links between Christian organizations and European institutions, support European unification and act as a critical voice in its development.
