The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

By 3 Dutch universities. Closed, 1 Jan 2009, due to lack of funding.

Aims

Develop and organize national and international research on political, social, economic and cultural developments in Islam and in Muslim societies and communities, with a strong emphasis on recent and contemporary developments; combine a multidisciplinary approach with a broad geographical range encompassing all relevant geographical areas: North Africa and the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, South and Southeast Asia, and (Muslims communities in) the West; establish close working relations with international scholars and academic institutions, including those in the regions concerned, and initiate joint research programmes on the basis of reciprocity; facilitate and administer education and training for students from all parts of the world at the Pre-PhD and PhD degree levels; make available and disseminate, to various audiences and interested parties, expertise on contemporary Islam and Muslim societies and respond to requests to assist the scholarly communication with Muslim communities at the national and international levels.
