History

28 Feb 1980, following recommendations, 4 Nov 1977, Lusaka (Zambia), of 3rd Conference of the Council of Ministers of MULPOC for Eastern and Southern Africa, currently E-XE5963 - ECA Sub-Regional Office for Eastern Africa (SRO-EA Kigali). Constitution drafted 2 Feb 1979, Nairobi (Kenya), at 4th Conference, and at meeting of experts 24-26 Oct 1979. Previously functioned from 1974 as East African Community Management Institute (EACMI) or East African Management Institute (EAMI), set up by E-XK2203 - East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Aims

Develop and provide effective advice for management and governance of private, civic and public sector organizations in Africa.

Structure

Governing Board, consisting of representatives of full member countries. Academic Board. Director General, assisted by Deputy Director General, heads Management Team, composed of Directors of Sectors and Departments. Management Development Committee (MDC) provides inputs in professional activities. Regional offices (9) in: Dar es Salaam; Harare (Zimbabwe); Kampala (Uganda); Lilongwe (Malawi); Lusaka (Zambia); Maputo (Mozambique); Mbabane (Eswatini); Nairobi (Kenya).
