Founded

1969-02-27 Moscow USSR

History

Established on signature of an intergovernmental agreement by 8 contracting parties - German Democratic Republic and 7 members of H-XC0432 - Council for Mutual Economic Assistance (CMEA): Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, USSR. Agreement subsequently signed, 1973, by the Republic of Cuba and 1979, by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

In 1992 membership of USSR was succeeded by Russia. Between 1992 and 2006, joined by Belarus, Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Moldova, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Georgia, India, South Africa and Egypt.

Registered in accordance with USSR law, 23 July 1971.

Registered with the United Nations, 23 June 1971. Convention on the legal status, privileges and immunities of inter-governmental economic organizations acting within certain fields of cooperation, 5 Dec 1980. Protocol to the 1969 Agreement, 19 May 1989.

Statutes registered in 'UNTS 1/11230'.

Aims

Facilitate and support international cooperation in science, information exchange, technology transfer and innovations; provide services in the field of scientific and technical information; assist small and medium innovative technology-driven business.
