The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

17 Oct 1972, Trieste (Italy), under the auspices of G-XG3907 - Nobel Foundation and F-XF1885 - The Rockefeller Foundation. Secretariat in Stockholm (Sweden) from 1972, subsequently transferred to Toronto (Canada). Statutes adopted 1977; new statutes adopted 30 Oct 1984, Copenhagen (Denmark); bylaws revised 1991 to include corporations, public bodies and individuals as members. Registered under Canadian law, 6 Nov 1986. Ceased to exist.

Aims

Present policy alternatives to decision-makers regarding selected global problems; initiate discussions among research scholars and corporate and governmental decision-makers on problems of global significance; further transdisciplinary research programmes with the aid of a network of cooperating institutes and laboratories; serve as a catalyst, a focus and forum for the serious study of selected major global problems where specific cooperative efforts are required; initiate specific studies, programmes and projects of transdisciplinary and transnational character in the natural sciences, technology, social sciences and humanities; encourage the exchange of scholars, ideas and materials.

Board of Directors (meets at least once a year) elected by Directors or Presidents of member organizations plus a minority of non-institute trustees.
