Founded at meeting of founder members, following a meeting of experts held 1949, Lugano (Switzerland), on the initiative of Walter Hunziker and Kurt Krapf. Statutes amended: 23 Jun 1954, Palermo (Italy); 24 Sep 1960, Stresa (Italy); 5 Sep 1975, Belgrade (Yugoslavia) and 21 Sep 1978, Alexandria (Egypt). New statutes adopted 2 Sep 1986, Montreux (Switzerland); amended 29 Aug 2005, Brainerd MN (USA), 20 Aug 2007, Macau and 29 Aug 2011, Barcelona (Spain).
Aims
Act a an international catalyst to promote scientific activity in the field of tourism; promote members' scientific activity, in particular by developing personal contacts, providing documentation and facilitating exchange of views and experience; support activity of scientific institutes of tourism and other centres of research and education in the field.
