Aug 1988, Sydney (Australia), as a commission of B-XB2079 - International Geographical Union (IGU). Ceased to exist, prior to 2009.

Aims

Investigate the general aspects of the changes that in recent history have taken place in the sea, including sea uses, the relationships between uses and marine management, and the evolution of sea management; study geostrategy related to the oceans; investigate regional seas, particularly semi-enclosed seas, and specific ocean areas with the aim of understanding how and to what extent they are involved in ocean change; attain the objectives through specific investigations of selected sectoral ocean use management, and integrated and regional ocean management, respectively.
