Founded
1988
History
1988, as 'Berhan Children's Home', a local NGO working to assist children orphaned as a result of the 1984/85 Ethiopian famine. Evolved as a community-based organization in 1992, working in central and southern parts of Ethiopia, specifically in Oromia Regional State. Registered in accordance with Ethiopian law.
Aims
Work for improved living standards of marginalized groups in Africa, especially in Ethiopia, by assisting their active participation in poverty alleviation endeavours; facilitate sustainable community-based development initiatives in the area of food security, education and health services in target areas, with special emphasis on children, youth and women, and in the areas of environmental conservation and rehabilitation, RH/FP, HIV/AIDS prevention and control and advocacy on women empowerment focusing on traditional harmful practices that affect women and children.
