The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

1975-01 Nairobi Kenya
History
Jan 1975, Nairobi (Kenya), by E-XE4161 - UNEP. First known in English as International Referral System for Sources of Environmental Information (IRS) and subsequently as International Environmental Information System. Originally one of six main components of the now United Nations system-wide H-XF5535 - Earthwatch, is currently related to Earthwatch through UNEP's Environmental Assessment Programme. Underwent reform process in response to UNEP Governing Council decision 20/5 after which no further activities were reported.
Aims
Operate as a world-wide network to assist organizations and individuals in locating sources of technical, scientific and decision-oriented information on the environment.
