Founded during 2nd International Symposium on Lower-Cost Housing Problems. Goals, constitution and bylaws adopted 10 Sep 1972.

Aims

Generate interest in improving housing technology and production; generate new knowledge through research and assemble all other available information on housing science; develop means to disseminate this to all concerned; emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of housing problems and the use of an integrated systems approach in the decision process at every phase of planning and construction; incorporate scientific knowledge and methods into the housing industry; create opportunities for all concerned in housing problems to obtain innovative ideas and methods; assemble, compile, publish and disseminate information; cooperate with other organizations in sponsoring and financing research; seek and support innovation with potential to solve the world shortage of decent housing; establish means of avoiding duplication of research.
