History
1967, with the title Permanent Services on Fluctuations of Glaciers (PSFG), as a service of H-XB0930 - Federation of Astronomical and Geophysical Data Analysis Services (FAGS), following recommendations of General Assembly of A-XA2722 - International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), 1960, Helsinki (Finland); and approval of General Assembly 1963, Berkeley CA (USA). Sometimes referred to as Fluctuations of Glaciers Service. Present title adopted 1 Jan 1986. Currently runs under the auspices of F-XE1185 - World Data System (WDS), A-XA2722 - International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) - D-XM3254 - International Association of Cryospheric Sciences (IACS), E-XE4161 - UNEP, B-XB3383 - UNESCO and B-XB3556 - World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
Aims
Reproduce a global set of data on fluctuations of glaciers which afford a general view of the changes; encourage more extensive standardized measurements; invite further processing of data; serve as a basis for research.
