This is a latest volume of the Yearbook of International Organizations series, which has been produced following numerous enquiries to the editors for statistical information on International Organization activity. The contents include:

Statistics: International organizations

Statistical tables of the forms previously published in Volumes 1-4 of the Yearbook (a reduced selection of the most basic tables will continue to appear in Volumes 1-4). The following tables distinguish between non-governmental (NGO) and intergovernmental (IGO) organizations:

  • Types of international organizations (with historical development)
  • Country participation in international organizations (with historical development, regional overview and "most represented" countries)
  • Secretariat location of international organizations by country and by city (with historical development and countries and cities with most secretariats)
  • Subject clustering of international organizations by type (with historical development and region/subject combinations)
  • Cross-citations between organizations of different types and according to the function of the linkage and between subjects.

Tables with new combinations of the:

  • latest data (smaller scale regions, organization types, languages, staff, budgets, member categories etc)
  • historical data and data series (eg the lifespan of organization from foundation to dormancy).

Statistics: International meetings

Published for the first time in the Yearbook are statistics of over 9000 meetings held annually by international organizations. These meetings are regularly listed in a separate publication of the UIA quarterly International Congress Calendar (2006, 47th year). Tables include:

  • Geographic distribution of meetings (by region, country and city, with principal countries and cities and historical development)
  • Meeting size and associated exhibitions
  • Meetings by type of organization, headquarters of organization, subject, meeting series etc

Statistics: Organization issues (problems, strategies, values)

Statistics relating to the concerns and activities of international organizations, as profiled in a separate UIA publication Encyclopedia of World Problems and Human Potential (1994-95, 4th edition) and its continuing online version. These include data on the number of profiles, their relationships with each other (including an analysis of loops) and with international organizations.
