Encyclopedia of World Problems and Human Potential

This long-term project was initiated in 1972 in collaboration with Mankind 2000. It has produced:

The work was recently significantly developed through a collaborative project to provide a context for information on biological conservation issues with support of the European Commission (DG XIII - Info2000).

As described in the above-linked pages on the hardcover and CD-ROM editions, the Encyclopedia currently consists of a a number of extensive data sets. These are hyperlinked within each other and to each other, as well as to companion data sets -- notably that which makes up the Yearbook of International Organizations. This volume profiles the 20,000 international bodies from which the data for the Encyclopedia is largely derived.

As noted in some cases above, the associated work on this project, often with independent data sets, includes:

The main data sets are on world problems, organization strategies, human values and human development as detailed below:

A general commentary on this project is available on this website. Specific commentaries on issues arising from aspects of this work are also available, some already on this website -- as noted above where appropriate.

For a statistical overview of the development of the Encyclopedia databases, see:

Please take a look at our extensive overview of the 20 or more reasons why you may be helped by the Encyclopedia CD-Rom and the other comprehensive reference tools. All of them allow you to search, retrieve, or complement information on global or local problems, human potential, on international organizations, and on their activities and congresses. They will prove useful to many people or organizations, such as:

  • policymakers, and governmental public officers
  • development agencies
  • students, universities, academies, libraries and documentation centres
  • international institutions, organizations and embassies
  • Commercial enterprises and entrepreneurs
  • editors and journalists
  • scientists and researchers
  • and many concerned, creative and participative individuals like yourself
