2000, by Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) and World Heart Federation (WHF).

Aims

Gather and disseminate knowledge on all aspects of tobacco control; alert health, education and other professionals whose work is relevant to tobacco control, media, government administrators, politicians and the general public to the dangers present by tobacco as well as the community health problems associated with it; assist and promote the work of its members throughout the world; establish and maintain close links with WHO, other UN organizations and government and non-governmental institutions in the health and development sectors; expand the network of NGOs involved in tobacco control.

Activities

Advocates for strong implementation of Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC); develops agreed position statements among members on aspects of tobacco control; manages a global partnership on the treatment of tobacco dependence; promotes health professional participation in tobacco control activity; provides technical advice to national and international tobacco control programmes; organizes occasional seminars and workshops.
