History

Founded 21 Sep 1941, Mexico City (Mexico), as Inter-American Federation of Automobile Clubs -- Fédération interaméricaine des automobiles clubs -- Federación Interamericana de Automóvil-Clubs (FIAC), under auspices of 2nd Inter-American Travel Congress and 4th Pan-American Highway Congress. Subsequent titles: Federación Interamericana de Touring y Automóvil Clubes (FITAC) -- Fédération interaméricaine de touring et des automobile-clubs -- Inter-American Federation of Touring and Automobile Clubs.

Aims

Ensure unity in automobile activities and protect the interests of motorists in member countries; facilitate automobile travel; provide uniform inter-American regulation of automobile sport; encourage organization of automobile clubs in countries where they do not exist; promote construction of highways and adequate road service; promote tourism, motoring and better road safety; promote interamerican reciprocal services.

Activities

Organizes meetings, workshops and seminars. Services to motorists include: provision of international documents (international driver's license, international motoring certificate, international presentation licence, safety identification stamps, international maps, etc); information about the mutual services between member clubs, road conditions, etc.
