Impact on meetings behavior. The Union of International Associations (UIA) is pleased to present the report of the 2021 Survey on International Meetings Issues. The COVID 19 pandemic has a tremendous impact on the global travel and meetings industry and on the meetings behaviour of international associations. This special UIA Survey 2021 ­­– COVID 19 Impact on International Association Meetings focuses on the changed approach of associations, when planning and organizing their international events.

The 2021 Report is now freely available to the public on the UIA’s website.

This 2021 Survey was made possible through the generous support of our sponsors: Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau, Seoul Tourism Organization, Polish Tourism Organisation - Poland Convention Bureau and VisitBritain.

With the completion of the new convention center, Maastricht Convention Bureau and MECC Maastricht are launching an international campaign to attract large-scale conventions. With the campaign called 'Maastricht: where heart meets matter', Maastricht is positioning itself as the ideal convention city where science, history, and innovation come together.

Research has shown that multiday international conventions have an impactful, long-term spin-off and strengthen a city's economic and social position. This is partly why investments were made not only in a completely renovated convention center, but now also in a large-scale campaign that will put Maastricht and the region on the international map as an alluring convention destination.

According to the The International Migration Outlook 2021, just 3.7 million permanent migrants arrived in OECD countries in 2020, a 33% drop from the previous year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the lowest level of migration since 2003.
