12-15 Nov 1984, Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), at 20th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of H-XD3027 - Organization of African Unity (OAU). Statute adopted at 21st Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of OAU, 18-20 Jul 1985, Addis Ababa. The Fund is also referred to as Special Relief Fund and is operated by F-XF0121 - African Development Bank Group (ADB Group). Currently administered by F-XF0018 - African Development Bank (ADB).

Aims

Provide emergency assistance to African countries affected by drought and/or famine; provide immediate financial and material assistance in support of national activities and programmes designed to reduce the impact of drought and/or famine in Africa.

Structure

Policy Committee (meets annually in ordinary session), consisting of 13 Member States. Secretariat lies with OAU Secretariat.
