1967 Baguio Philippines

History

Idea conceived 1967, Baguio (Philippines), at 2nd S-XF2027 - Conference of Governors of Southeast Asian Central Banks (SEACEN), with feasibility discussed at subsequent annual conferences. Single centre for both research and training agreed at 7th meeting, 1972, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). Officially opened 15 Jan 1977. Became a legal entity when formal agreement was signed at 17th Conference, 3 Feb 1982, Bangkok (Thailand).

Aims

Promote a better understanding of the financial, monetary, banking and economic development matters which are of interest to the central banks and monetary authorities of the countries in South East Asia or of interest to the region as a whole; stimulate and facilitate cooperation among central banks and monetary authorities in the area of research and training.

Structure

Board of Governors (meeting annually in conjunction with SEACEN Governors' Conference), comprises Governors and Managing Directors of central banks and monetary authorities. Executive Committee, comprising Deputy Governors; Board of Directors (meets annual), comprising Governor and Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, plus Executive Director. Departments (3): Learning Design and Development; Research and Learning Contents; Performance and Support Services. SEACEN Trust Fund, set up by 23rd SEACEN Conference, Jan 1988, Singapore.
