Founded at Constituent Congress, on the initiative of B-XB3383 - UNESCO, when Statutes were adopted.
Statutes modified and individual membership introduced Sep 1970, Varna (Bulgaria); last modifications: 1986, Delhi (India); Aug 1993, Gävle (Sweden); Jul 1994, Bielefeld (Germany); Jul 2002, Brisbane (Australia); Jul 2010, Gothenburg (Sweden); Jul 2014, Yokohama (Japan).

Represent sociologists everywhere, regardless of their school of thought, scientific approaches or ideological opinion.
