History

1972, Malawi, as a vocational training project, by E-XE3382 - UNDP in collaboration with B-XB2622 - International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and B-XB3408 - Universal Postal Union (UPU) and with participation of Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi and Swaziland (BLMS). Funded and managed by UNDP until 1984; from 1984 to 1987, funded by H-XD0665 - European Community under T-XT7543 - ACP-EEC Convention (Lomé convention) and T-XT7979 - Second ACP-EEC Convention (Lomé II); from 1987 to 1989, funded by Malawi government; from Apr 1989, a body corporate funded and managed by BLMS governments.

Aims

Provide cost effective middle and advanced level training to posts and telecommunication personnel in the Southern Africa region; develop so as to offer courses in other disciplines - currently management and computing.

Board of Management, consisting of representatives of governments of member countries, assisted by Chief Executives of their respective Posts and Telecommunications Administrations. Principal (Chief Executive Officer); Deputy Principal (Head of Training). Centre located in Blantyre (Malawi).
