Founded 1884, Philadelphia PA (USA), as Association of Official Agricultural Chemists. Name changed, 1965, to Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) -- Association des chimistes analytiques officiels -- Asociación de Quimicos Analiticos Oficiales. Present name adopted 1991.

Aims

Advance the global chemistry and microbiology analytical community by promoting methods validation and quality measurements.

Organizes: annual meeting and exhibition; workshops; topical conferences; training courses; laboratory proficiency testing programme. Expert scientists in industry, academic and government laboratories worldwide coordinate the development and validation of chemical and microbiological analytical methods, working with 3 validation programs: AOAC Official Methods; AOAC Peer-Verified Methods; AOAC Performance Tested Methods. AOAC validated and recognized methods are used by governments, industry and academia worldwide for analysis of commodities, particularly those related to food, agriculture and public health and safety: to check compliance with regulations; in quality control; to monitor conformity with procurement specifications; in research.
