Founded

1999

History

Established on the basis of Resolution 1/117 adopted by the Council at its 117th Session. Comes within the framework of B-XB0971 - FAO. Replaces in terms of geographical area the former 'Committee for the Development and Management of Fisheries Resources of the Gulfs', a subsidiary body of the U-XE9613 - Indian Ocean Fishery Commission (IOFC), abolished by Resolution 116/1 of the Council, Jun 1999. Regional Commission of E-XE0365 - FAO Regional Office for the Near East and North Africa.

Aims

Promote development, conservation, rational management and best utilization of living marine resources, as well as the sustainable development of aquaculture in the Indo-Pacific region.
