History
Nov 1978, Toronto (Canada), as an Organized Research Unit of the Faculty of Arts of York University (Toronto). As of May 1989, reported to the Vice-President (Research and Faculties). Currently a non-faculty based Research Unit reporting to Dean of Faculty of Graduate Studies.
Aims
Function as an interdisciplinary research organization concerned with economic development, political and social organization, and culture of Latin America and the Caribbean; build academic and cultural links between these regions and Canada; inform researchers, policy advisors and the public on matters concerning the regions; assist in development of research and teaching institutions that directly benefit the peoples of the region.
