The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

Founded

1951 Paris France

History

Set up 6 Dec 1951, Paris (France), under auspices of A-XA3375 - United Nations (UN) and B-XB3383 - UNESCO by an international convention, with the title International Computation Center. Transformed in 3 states (1969-197, reorganization, 1971-1972, consolidation, and from 1973 on expansion) into Bureau under listed title. Finalized 11-13 Dec 1974, Paris (France), by UN General Assembly Resolution. Dissolved.

Aims

Promote research, education, utilization of informatics at government level. To this purpose the Bureau develops its action particularly in the following sectors: development of working relations with government authorities for informatics and promotion of the establishment of such authorities in countries where they do not exist; study of the application of informatics in economic and industrial planning and development; research policies in informatics; automated documentation; up-dating, compilation and dissemination on the programmes of informatics science and technique.
