History

Evolving out of U-XF2477 - Special Programme for African Agricultural Research (SPAAR), set up in 1985. Formally founded, Apr 2001, by D-XD5643 - Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA), F-XF3083 - West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (WECARD) and U-XE1369 - Southern African Centre for Cooperation in Agricultural Research and Training (SACCAR). Formally launched at General Assembly, July 2002, Maputo (Mozambique). Serves as technical arm of D-XD8572 - African Union (AU) on matters concerning agriculture science, technology and innovation.

Aims

Create broad-based improvements in agricultural productivity, competitiveness and markets by supporting Africa's sub-regional organizations in strengthening capacity for agricultural innovation.
