History

1989, as Southern African Development Coordination Conference Museums Association, by the previous H-XD9682 - Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADCC), currently F-XF2522 - Southern African Development Community (SADC). As of 2011, no longer active.

Aims

Establish, maintain and strengthen relations among all concerned with study, practice, preservation, protection, dissemination and promotion of their national heritage in all countries of the region; promote efforts and ideas relating to protection, preservation and presentation of the region's cultural and natural heritage; facilitate meaningful use of museums, publicizing their existence and role in national development; foster and improve professional standards; cooperate with organizations concerned with the use of the museum as an educational and tourist resource; promote collaboration among museum professionals; strive for return of cultural property.

Structure

General Conference (every 2 years). Executive Committee, consisting of Executive Secretariat (Chairman and Secretary-Treasurer), Vice-Chairman and 8 members. National Coordinating Committees. Secretariat rotates among member countries after each General Conference.
