1968, Mexico City (Mexico), during the Olympic Games. Also referred to International Water Polo Board -- Comité international du water polo and in French as Association internationale des arbitres (AIA). Current constitution adopted, 23 Jul 2001, Fukuoka (Japan). Ceased to exist 2010; replaced by B-XJ4808 - World Water Polo Referees Association (WWR).

Aims

Acting in conformity with the principles of the Olympic Charter, bring about the fraternity of sports of all nations in the Olympic spirit; establish and maintain collaboration with international and national federations and their technical committees; maintain collaboration among all referees and protect their common interests; encourage foundation of national associations of referees; take interest in composition of rules and unify systems of refereeing used in various countries to bring about a generally accepted conception of refereeing best suited to the demands of respective sports; encourage contacts, exchange of experience, mutual understanding and friendship among members; encourage construction, perfection and modernization of water polo equipment.

Structure

Congress, every 4 years at World Championships, elects Executive Committee (meets annually) consisting of President and 10 members, which elects 2 Vice-Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer (4-year terms), the Officers comprising the Bureau.
