History

Nov 1979, having previously functioned as Standing Committee for Cooperation with National Social Science Councils and Analogous Bodies -- Comité permanent pour la coopération avec les conseils nationaux de sciences sociales et organismes similaires (CPCCN), within H-XA2466 - International Social Science Council (ISSC); and subsequently, 1975, as a membership organization (Regular Member) still within the framework of ISSC, with the title Conference of National Social Science Councils and Analogous Bodies (CNSSC) -- Conférence des conseils nationaux de sciences sociales et organismes similaires (CCNSS).

Aims

Contribute to and strengthen international cooperation in the field of social sciences; further and support social sciences in general; in particular contribute to their development in developing countries; stimulate and facilitate exchange of ideas and experience among members; disseminate information on national, regional and international levels; provide an international forum for cooperation and communication among councils, academies and other bodies responsible for developing and funding social science research and research training, social science policy issues and similar.

Structure

General Assembly (every 2 years, at General Conference) comprises one delegate from each member. Executive Board (meets prior to General Conference), consisting of President, 1st Vice-President, 2 Vice-Presidents, Secretary-General, Treasurer and 7 members, elected so as to give fair representation to all 3 membership groupings (I, II and II world).
