The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).
Founded
1994
History
as an initiative of H-XD0665 - European Community for 1994-1999, implemented by E-XE2442 - European Commission (EC); from 1997 also included Adapt-bis (second round of projects). Replaced for 2000-2006 by 'Employment Community Initiative 2000-2006'.
Aims
Accelerate adaptation of the work force in the European Union to industrial change; increase competitivity of industry, services and commerce; prevent unemployment by improving qualifications, flexibility and mobility of the work force; anticipate and accelerate creation of new jobs and new labour intensive activities, including through exploiting SME potential. Under 'Adapt-bis': evaluate and anticipate labour market developments related to the information society; develop active strategies to help labour force adaptation to the information society and to gear information technology products to needs of potential users; develop and experiment with policies and schemes to support adaptation of work organization and employment practices to the information society; identify ways to improve quality of working life and business efficiency.
