The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).
History
as one of the Regional Centres for Space Science and Technology Education Affiliated to the United Nations within the framework of E-XE0535 - Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), part of the United Nations Space Applications Programme. Set up following recommendations of H-XF2785 - Global Action Plan for Environment and Development in the 21st Century (Agenda 21). Was based at E-XE7552 - United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV). First session 21-22 Oct 1999, Sofia (Bulgaria). As of 2005 "ceased to exist".
Aims
Develop skills and knowledge of university educators and of research and applications scientists through rigorous theory, research, applications, field exercises and pilot-projects in aspects of space science and technology able to enhance social and economic development in each country, specifically through strengthening remote sensing and geographical information system (GIS) capacities, meteorological satellite applications, satellite communications and global positioning systems, space and atmospheric sciences and space biology and medicine.
