History

Founded 2 July 1993, Heathrow (UK). Amendments to Constitution adopted by Congress: 1994; 1996; 1998; 2000. United with International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) as umbrella organization until 26 Sep 1998, when decision of 26 June 1998, to exist autonomously came into effect. The sport had been represented from 1960 by UIPM, which from 1960 to 1998 was referred to as 'International Modern Pentathlon and Biathlon Union -- Union internationale de pentathlon moderne et biathlon (UIPMB)'. Registered in accordance with Austrian law, 26 Jan 2000.

Aims

Support, develop and promote the sport of biathlon - cross country skiing and rifle shooting - in the fields of competitive and popular recreational sports, with special emphasis on development of youth; promote training knowledge and officiate in the sport; represent international biathlon in international sports organizations and with the media, business, industry and sponsors; set rules and regulations for biathlon and its conduct.
