History

23 May 1950, Florence (Italy), as Conference of International Non-Governmental Organizations in Consultative Relations - Categories A and B - with UNESCO -- Conférence des organisations internationales non gouvernementales entretenant des relations de consultation - catégories A et B - avec l'UNESCO, at 1st Conference, convened by UNESCO following a recommendation, Jan 1950, of Temporary International Council for Educational Reconstruction (TICER). Subsequently changed title to Conference of International Non-Governmental Organizations in Consultative Relations with UNESCO -- Conférence des organisations internationales non gouvernementales entretenant des relations de consultation avec l'UNESCO; Conference of International Non-Governmental Organizations in Official Relations with UNESCO -- Conférence des organisations internationales non gouvernementales entretenant des relations officielles avec l'UNESCO.

Aims

Study and improve arrangements for consultation with UNESCO; seek practical means of cooperation in the implementation of UNESCO programmes.

Engages in collective consultations on aspects of UNESCO's programme. Joint programme commissions carry out in-depth studies on particular subjects: poverty; human rights and culture of peace; Habitat II; Science and ethics.
