1973, Ottawa (Canada), by Commonwealth Heads of Government, following discussions in 1969, Singapore (Singapore), and a programme drafted at a special Ministerial meeting, 1973, Lusaka (Zambia). An integral part of C-XC0376 - Commonwealth Secretariat.

Aims

Support and assist Commonwealth governments in the development of policies and programmes to increase the participation of young people in society; promote participation of youth in the process of national development; recognize their contribution to the economic, social and cultural development of their societies.

S-XF5602 - Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meeting (CYMM) (currently meets every 4 years), elects Committee of Management. Commonwealth Secretary-General charged with overall responsibility for administration. Headquarters are at ComSec in London (UK), originally under the 'Human Resource Development Division'; merged into a composite 'Women and Youth Affairs Division (WYAD)' in 1993. Currently administered by the Youth Affairs Department of the renamed 'Gender and Youth Affairs Division (GYAD)'. Regional centres (4): K-XE2261 - Commonwealth Youth Programme South Pacific Regional Centre (CYP-SPRC); K-XK1177 - Commonwealth Youth Programme - Caribbean Centre (CYPCC); U-XK1176 - African Centre of the Commonwealth Youth Programme; K-XK1178 - Asia Centre of the Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP Asia Centre).
