The UIA is a leading provider of information about international non-profit organizations. The aim of the Open Yearbook is to promote the activities of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and intergovernmental organizations (IGOs).

History

Founded by 1st Pan-African NGO Congress, organized by F-XF0543 - African Network for Integrated Development (ANID). Statutes adopted 26 Jan 1992, Harare (Zimbabwe). No activities reported since 2005.

Aims

Provide African voluntary development organizations with a forum for mutual support and cooperation; help them identify and mobilize resources for development, with a view to self-sufficiency; involve the peoples of Africa in such a way that they contribute to their own development; promote effective partnership for development; encourage the exchange of experiences through the establishment of effective relations of solidarity; establish effective relations of solidarity with other structures of civil society; create a communications network with African governments, governmental institutions and associations of the North.

General Assembly (every 4 years). Board of Directors, consisting of President, 6 Vice-Presidents representing the six sub-regions (Central Africa, East Africa, Indian Ocean, North Africa, Southern Africa, West Africa), Treasurer and 6 members, outgoing President (without voting rights) and Executive Secretary (ex-officio). Executive Committee, consisting of President, Treasurer and 5 members. Executive Committee, headed by Executive Secretary. Sectoral Networks (6): Integrated Development; Environment; Health; Education; Promotion of Women; Research. Executive Secretariat.
