With its theme of “Empowered Women Leading Business,”
in this “Women's Century,” the Congress is sure to be exciting and very
rewarding! And, it's taking place in Asia, at a time also known as the
"Asian Century" – in dynamic, techno-savvy, eco-conscious Korea, with
its first-ever female president – which guarantees it will be one of the
most fascinating Congresses you could ever experience!
BPW Korea , via its Host Planning Committee [HPC], is busy preparing to host the Congress. The International Convention Center Jeju will be our beautiful seaside venue. Find more details on the Congress website.
The International Planning Committee [IPC] is diligently developing the program, and have invited UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, UN Women's anticipated new Executive Director Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, UN Global Compact Executive Director Georg Kell, and UNDP Administrator Helen Clark, with many more high-level invitations going out shortly.
As always, representatives of our partner organizations are expected to join us, to include, in addition to those above, World Bank, International Organisation of Employers, International Trade Centre, WEConnect, Commonwealth Business Women, and more.
And for the first time, a Male CEO Diversity Award, modeled after BPW Korea's "Gold Award" and scheduled for global announcement by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the September 2013 UNGC Leader's Summit in New York, will be given to 5 male recipients from across the globe who have made special efforts to promote women's empowerment!
Another first: BPW International and BPW Korea, in collaboration with our partners UNGC and IOE and their Korean counterparts, have launched a new initiative: “Korea in Action: YES for WEPs!” by which Korean businesses are encouraged to sign a pledge of support for the Women's Empowerment Principles! Our goal is 100 signatories, who will be specially presented at our 2014 Congress! This Congress hopes not only to empower its members but to promote gender equality in its host country, for a lasting contribution!
For more firsts: this Congress aims to integrate indigenous practices as viable business models, highlight the local host of Jeju Island and its tradition of Strong Jeju Women, develop and present a Korea Declaration, and utilize the latest in technology and eco-friendly venues -- two areas in which Korea leads the world!
Come to the 28th BPW International Congress ! Come to Jeju – the experience of a lifetime !
