In the summer of 2004, the UIA partnered with the Europhil Trust to edit, publish and host its Civil Society Glossary. This is the most recent version which appeared online in 2006.

The Civil Society Glossary is a resource of terms and definitions used when working in and with the civil society sector.

Term Definition
Management Consultant or Counsel
One who gives advice or direction on management (basic economic, managerial, operating and technological problems) for a fee. Sought to aid executives confronted with executive type problems by applying their experience with similar problems in other contexts.
Managing Trustee
A trustee charged with recurrent responsibilities of management (as distinguished from custodian trustee, q.v.)
Market Value
The value of assets if they were sold on the open market at current prices (i.e. recent invoice or quoted price less customary adjustments, including cash discount).
Matching Funds
Funds offered or given in a fixe relation to the total product of some other source.
Mecenat
Patronage of culture by private generosity. It is typified by direct action, i.e. it does not generally create intermediary bodies which are capable of prolonging or generalising its effect.
Members
Persons making up an organisation.
Membership Dues
Annual contribution paid by a member to his organisation.
Minutes
A record of the proceedings of a meeting.
Motivation
A cause or reason which stimulates or inspires to action.
